LAZY SUNDAY AFTERNOON at Ariadne’s Nectar pub in west London, July 2007. It was the the first gig of the Thunderclap Newman Band after their formation about a year and a half before. This was more like an open rehearsal, a warm up appearance, so to speak.. Nothing was advertised, we just asked a few friends to drop by. We wanted to have a musical snapshot of the band, as it were, at that point in time. This short clip is the soundcheck, which clearly wasn’t going very well but watch it to the end., it’s worth it. You just have to believe me! The song is called “When I Think” and is on the classic Thunderclap Newman album (1969)called “Hollywood Dream”, produced by Pete Townshend. Spoiler alert: the word “crescendo” springs to mind, or should I spell it slightly differently? No, that would be telling – enjoy! P. S. Bass player Brian Jackson is seen on the far right, next to me. He passed away just recently and I dedicate this clip to his memory. Line up, from left to right: Andy “Thunderclap” Newman (keyboard), Stefanos Tsourelis {lead guitar), David Buckley (vocals) behind him Antonio Spano (drums), István Etiam (rhythm guitar & backing vocals) and Brian Jackson (bass guitar). Video credit: Annabel Herbert and Edward “Banana Splayed Relationship” Green.
