The trucks roll by as I stand by the road
The wind blows hard
I’d better do up the collar of my coat
I’m out of work, out of luck
But hell, I just don’t give a ****
I know I should have tried harder
So it’s time to settle down
Stop fooling around
All my plans and resolutions
Gone up on smoke
And buried underground
Another year, another day
I just can’t seem to find my way
I know I should have tried harder
None of my friends seems to understand
Why I drift through life
Maybe I need a guiding hand
And when blue turns to grey
I find that at the end of the day
I know I should have tried harder
I once loved a girl
I was her only one
She warmed my soul
Like the rays of the rising sun
Oh but I let her slip away
I still regret it to this very day
I know I should have tried harder
If we only had
Just one day left to live
We’d know how sweet
The taste is that life can give
I may cry, I may laugh
But this will be my epitaph
I know I should have tried harder
I may cry, I may laugh
But this will be my epitaph
I know I should have tried harder
