LOOK OUT, István is coming at you! This tour has been in the planning for a while but it took some time to organise it all. Now I’m ready to hit the scene and take my music to the masses. Alright, I’m slightly exaggerating here since I’ll be only playing small venues but no doubt I’ll have a good time and I’m sure that my audience will have fun too. Germany is calling as well, so that’s an added bonus. I have lived in several cities in (West) Germany in the 70s and it’ll be quite a shock to be back after 45+ years.
Take Berlin for example; I moved there in 1976, shortly before David Bowie decided to relocate to Berlin. Recently I listened to BBC podcast “Bowie in Berlin” and heard a song where he says he’s sitting in the ‘Jungle’. I instantly realized he was talking about one of my favourite hang-outs the Dschungel. Most of my weekends I spent in east-Berlin, at parties, meeting musicians and artists. I was a regular customer at Checkpoint Charlie. Not once did it cross my mind that I should document all this. I could have bought a camera after all. I have zero images but a lot of wonderful memories. The Stasi (secret service) would have confiscated my camera anyway. Berlin will be like another planet for me. Then again, London now looks a bit different to how it was in 1976!
Also I shall be playing my first ever Sofakonzert (house concert) at a friend’s house in Lemgo (near Bielefeld). A big thank you in advance to my hosts Ulrich & Christina. A Thank You also goes to Nigel Long who put the tour poster together. He did a marvelous job with the cover for my LP “Butterfly Dreamer”. There’ll be short reports from various locations and a grand summary at the end of my German foray.
